Flying in the air above 20,000 feet can be a harrowing experience, if you let it. I let it bother me and after a horrible experience with turbulence in the spring of 2007 I swore never to set foot onto a plane again. I hid from the fear and from the world for a while. As a photographer and observer, this was a rough decision for me. Inspiration and experience took a backseat to my fear and uncertainty.
But at the end of 2010 I was presented with the opportunity to fly to a country I’ve only dreamt of visiting; the UK. I could not turn down this offer especially since the round trip flight was incredibly cheap. So I threw caution to the wind and just went. And my trip was a breeze! I was so proud of myself for conquering my fear that I went back to the UK in April. As wide-eyed as I am back in my small & sleepy Massachusetts town, I became even more wide-eyed. I walked along narrow dirt roads in tiny English villages, tucked myself in alleyways in London, all with my Pentax and a lead-lined bag full of film. Here is a selection of photographs I took from my travels to England and Scotland.
